When we install them there is different Extensions we may need to test as well like in Joomla there is like 4 different Forums extensions . But yeah thats a good idea. Kinda give everyone the availability to test and compare.

Tom, you are correct in saying that PHPBB uses CSS. OSCommerce also uses CSS. When you mention artwork what specifically do you have in mind? Give me something and I'll see what I can do with it. My sig was a quickie done in Photoshop as well as the artwork for the site I listed earlier.

I would have to say, Designers and Developers could nearly be the same people. All we need to do is communicate, possibly some quick sketches etc.

Also I have been looking into a CMS, it is not really designed strickly for clans but it seems to have alot of the basics we need. And a Bonus it is Open Source. http://www.joomla.org/. Adding extensions to it such as Kunena for fourms, we should be able to get a redesign done rather quickly. It seems to be coded in XHTML and CSS and PhP. I am suggesting maybe we could set up a demo of it sometime. I am playing around with it on my localhost AKA my computer.

as for the bones of the site this is what I am thinking...

No tables! Currently our site is made up of tables fitting together like a puzzle. Instead use div's and css positioning them where they need to go. That way we can make different style sheets for different devices phones tv's ect. We just hide stuff for smaller screens that isn't important.

As for styles and colors we can use different css stylesheets for colors and let you choose for yourself what one you like and use it. I think phpbb uses something like that in the user control panel. We will create our own most likely linking off of theirs somehow. Just a thought I came up with writing this. I don't think users will have a choice on the layout though just colors. We don't want to build a site 5 times differently. Its easy to change colors not layouts. There will be a layout for phones though but you wont be able to chose it since it is automatic by using a phone to access the site.

A lot less pictures! More color will be used and less graphics for the majority of the site. We will still have graphics but not like the current site which is basically a big picture cut up to fit in the tables. This site is not low bandwidth friendly. And it really needs to support our friends out of the country who drop in to say hi.

Overall our problem isn't coding the site the way we want. It is designing it with pictures. I don't think anyone is really good with photoshop. We need artists!! And that is not only the problem. The artist has to be able to fit the theme in the mind of the programmer. That is the real challenge. I think it would work better if the artist designed some theme pictures and then the programmers build around that. Just a thought!

We need to get a list going, get input from everyone we can get in contact with and figure out their ideas, then we have a meeting with everyone who is willing to help with the site reconstruction and figure out what is possible and what isn't.

I am guessing Someone should put this. Anyone who is willing to help with the redesign. We should probably start thinking up ideas and what we can do to help the developers. Such as graphics, coding, experience with CMSs we should look into.

Also another thing to add,

We have to consider that the site/forums, if one of the first things a new user sees when they are applying.

This means everyone should participate in this, I just hope more start giving opinions or suggestions etc.

Tom Maybe we could advertise this on the message of the day on vent to help get people to see this?

But yeah, a complete redesign would be a lot of work depending on what you choose to change.

Things that should be considered if a re-design is done.

Design
New Banners / Logo
Mock-Ups
Color Schemes (Multiple Ones Possibly)
Font to Use (Vendana is easy to read on monitors)
Navigation Bar (Location, styles, etc...)

Business
Registration (How should it all be)
Single Logon (Forums and Site)
Ads or Ad-Free

Technical
Standards Compliant (XHTML or HTML and CSS)
Main Site (PHP or ASP or Ruby) PhP preferred
Widgets (Finding ones or making ones that work) - Calendar, Ventrillo thing
Should we use a CMS(Content Management System) or develop our own
Forum System (PhPBB or finding another)

What we all really need to do is talk about what we need from the site. I know we have many people in this clan that know a thing or 2 about programming and graphics. And hearing about it all and then developing a priority matrix or something so we can as a group bring the "face-lift" to a reality.

I like yellow and black as well. But we can throw some blue in there as well. I am thinking this summer I will redo things. I am going to design it with less pictures and a little more CSS styles so it will load a lot faster. Hey we should even be able to load it on our mobiles. I could make a mobil css template for our phones.

Other thoughts I have is pulling in some good rss feeds from other sites like Maximum PC. So we have constant news to read.

What are some things you guys read every day?

I like our forums but it is 2 years out of date. I would have updated it long ago but that would involve remaking the theme in the new template design. We currently use phpbb. New features include adding files to our posts and about a million other things.

I was also thinking the same thing, I don't know all that much about web design but Im a decent image editor, and I know how to set up a forums system working with HTTP and FTP editing software provided free for Firefox users.

I like the Yellow and Black theme.
